RE: Condensation

Run the a/c for a while and it will disappear. Then just run the fan on the a/c every once in a while. Remember to open vents to let in new air or you will get oxygen deprived.

FTE Fleetwood Stock low 18 cents now 19 cents

Showing no signs of any way to make the $100,000,000 loan go away, or refinance it, FTE is heading to new lows. Will it bounce back or is this it?

RE: Skylight Condensation

Just seal it, the gasket probaby was disolved due to road vibrations and UV light. Mine did that years ago, I resealed it and it hasn't been a problem since. You have to unscrew the screws and take it apart up on the roof, clean it and place a bead of sealer on the contact point and re screw it down. Just snug the screws or you will crack the plastic. A little presure evenly around the contact points to get them sealed together is needed, as the screws won't seat it, they just hold it on.

RE: 460 ford using lots of oil

Loose oil filter? Or too tight leaking? Valve cover gaskets leaking? They would all occur during driving and not upon shutting off engine. Plugged PCV valve would do it to, causing gaskets to leak.

RE: 4 corner weights

The weight is the static reading that should have been done on front to back and side to side level areas. The dynamic reading would shift the weight more to the right as most roads are slopped to the right for drainage. If you have active air ride the weight will be distributed as the rig levels itself. If not active but manual air bags shift the weight by raising the right side. Air the tires to the heaviest side reading, on each axle.

RE: Engine ticking

Leaking exhaust manifold. They contract when cold and then expand when hot, that's why you hear it upon start. Not realy a problem as when they are running hot they dont leak. The steel exhaust manifolds do that often. They seat on the cast iron block without gaskets as used in cast iron manifolds. The metal worps and they open up, wear metal to metal contact does not exist, when cold. Many shops just grind them so they seat better. Mine has been doing it for years and have been told it's common.

RE: Has anyone regretted going bigger?

For what you will pay in taxes you could set up a domicile in another state that does not have sales taxes. Of course big is better, and two baths are great. Shop around in the non tax states, so your dollars are bigger.

RE: Tires and winter storage question

The tires will dry out as moisture is pulled from them if not on something other than concrete or the soils. Most people use plywood as it is cheap. The tires also need to be raised up by putting down levelers and increasing the air pressure to 10% above the maximum. That's what goodyear says and it makes sense, as what can happen with tires is the internal belts move out of alignment if even pressure is not present. That results in blow outs and cracks that shorten the life of the tires. Covering them while inside may not be needed but won't hirt.

RE: Rubber roof ????

It's roof dandruff! The best way to determine what it is, is to have a look see. The coating could have been put on wrong, and is comming off, due to lack of adhearance. That would require a scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush, and if it all comes off, then a good coating of Dicor rubber roof paint. That paint has directions that require a good cleaning , a sealant, and two top coats. They must be done at plus 50 degrees F and not rained on before the paint dries. It takes about 8 hours and thats with help from mother nature to dry it good before you do it. You need to touch up caulking before you do it. Then use a 3 inch brush and a 9 inch paint roller on a long handle. One gallon will cover a 36 ft RV with two roof airs. It's about $67 per gallon for paint. If it's the rubber roof itself and not a coating comming off then your in for a new roof and about $4700 in cost. Good luck, have someone do it that is in good health, as it can be a hard job if your not in shape and/or under 250 Lbs, as the roof won't handle more wieght.

RE: GM SUV plant working overtime.

The threat of bankruptcy is being used against the US Government to get the bailout money. It would cost the country more to allow the bankruptcy than it would to bail them out. They are being offered a low interest loan (5%) of a portion of 25 Billion US Dollars, but it comes with strings that requires certain plants stay open and only certain vehicles are built. They want to do what ever they want with the money and are trying to get the deal as sweet as the banks got. They even want to convert GMAC to a bank so they qualify for the sweet bank deals.

RE: water heater drain stripped

They sell self tapping screws for any threads that are stripped. The head is tapered and has a cross cut. You might try an auto parts store, and a self tapping oil drain screw. They are in all different sizes, including a screw within a screw that allows the self tap potion to create the new seat, so you don't have to remove it and continue to strip it more.

RE: New F.L. Chassis

The chassis used on motorhomes are the low end of thier design. They seem to sell them as motorhome manufacturers cut corners. If anything they are worse than some older designs. I reviewed the technical sheets and was less than impressed.

RE: Is Fill-R-Up for Storage Really Important

Gasoline typically goes bad in 30 days. Diesel gets algea growing in it is water gets in. The filling at these prices seems smart, but not if the fuel goes bad. The additives are a must, just as running the engine is on a monthly basis is. I feel that what ever it is at, after the last trip, is fine. The fill up of new fuel upon next trip probably insures better MPG's and so what if it's a few bucks more.

RE: How to tow dinghy 4 down behind 24' Class C

Rule is 4 inch maximum up or down. So you need the toad frame to be made so it goes up. Have a welding shop fabricate a frame that will fit into the tow bar connections of the toad frame and come out and up, using angle iron and gusset plates. That's what many have to do. Hitch world or towing world may have prefabricated frames, so check with them. Uhaul also sells and makes hitches. Brakes are required if toad is 3000LBs or more.

RE: Where's my oil going?? Workhorse 8.1L

The good news it that the oil is being burnt to save the engine. The deep sump and high pressure forces the oil to the cylinder as the piston rises and stays there to cool the cylinder and keep the life of the metal. It runs thin, as it should to do the job right. My 1997 Vortec always uses one quart in 2000 miles of 10W30 and never shows signs of any oil at tail pipe or any leaks.

RE: Closing truck plant

GM just gave a 100 day notice to the point of no return to US government. That probably is the point where they will Chapter 11 the whole company. They have asked for 10 million US grant (bailout) and have been told no. They were offered part of a 25 Billion US low interest loan (5%) if they joined with Chrysler and Ford to develope economical vehicles and guaranty they keep open certain plants, but Ford said no. They want to convert GMAC to a bank and get bailout money that way, and are in Washington begging for some kind of help. In the mean time they are stating they won't continue benefits, but US gov said that would be illegal. So the 100 days start clicking down and many places will shut down as they get closer. The drop dead date is somewhere in February 2009 where the sweet spot for filing bankruptcy is ripe for Chapter 11 which will keep them open but pay debts off probably at 25 cents on the dollar. Things look real bad for the world economies as jobs disappear everywhere. The US unemployment will hit 6.5% soon. Ford rehired the 450 person truck crew to build the 2009 F150's which get better MPG's than the 2008's. GM stock to be penny stock soon (under $5.00 US).

RE: Workers Compensation for Workkampers

Florida requires it, even if a illegal gets injured they have to pay. The lawyers usualy have to get involved to get settlement. The only non required is if you are an independent contractor. Then you have to pay the workers comp yourself and withold your taxes. Most people who have insurance don't say it's an on the job injury, if they did the insurance won't cover it. But if it's a substantial injury with disablilties then the on the job workers compensation is the way to go, as it provides total coverage and disablilty salary payment once any sick leave is used.
